The Directory of Essential Oils by Wanda Sellar is a book I’ve had in my bookshelf for over 17 years. That fact that my copy is dog-eared and stained with essential oils proves how much I’ve used it and referred to it over the years.
I’ve always found it to be a wealth of information as it contains valuable insights into so many of the popular as well as not so popular essential oils.
I’ve often referred to it when I’m making blends for my aromatherapy diffuser, natural skin care products and even simple room sprays. It provides useful knowledge about which oils blend well with others and their many properties and their effects on mind and body.
What I especially love is the way the author has researched the history of each essential oil and myths that surround their beginnings.
If there is one book you ever buy on aromatherapy and essential oils this is most definitely the one I recommend the most.

I have a question about diffusers. I have looked online for a good healthy diffuser recipe with no synthetic ingredients. I noticed yours included jojoba and vodka. (I don’t know what jojoba is.) Would vegetable oil or baby oil work or is this what you have found to be the best? Thanks!
Hi Michelle
Thanks for your inquiry about healthy diffuser recipes. The only ingredients that go into a diffuser recipe are pure essential oils, you do not add anything else like vodka, jojoba or carrier oils. These types of ingredients are added for perfume recipes but not diffuser recipes.
Please find more information on aromatherapy diffusers here:
For your info, Jojoba is a natural liquid wax and you can find more about it on the Jojoba page.
I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks

hi i have been researching the best essential oil combination to use on your skin as a daily routine to help keep youthful skin and to revitilize the skin and also to maintain the skins natural elasticity.i know a lady who is 75 years old and she has been using essential oils on her face since was in her 20’s and her face looks wonderful.i do not have acne so i choose the oils based on my skin type i am 36 years oil by the way- after a lot of research i picked these as the best but i dont know how to combine them – Patchouli, rosewood, geranium, lavender, rosemary, rose, clarysage, frankincence, neroli, carrot oil- can you help me to figure out how to combine these essential oils? thanks so much
Hi Michelle
You have quite a few options with the essential oils you have researched into.
First I would suggest using the recipe for the Rich Rosebud Moisturizer. Replace the Rosehip oil with Carrot oil and replace the 8 drops of Rose oil with a combination of two or three from your list (or just use the Rose oil). Suggestions for good combinations are Clary Sage and Patchouli (4 drops of each). 3 drops of Rosemary, 3 drops of Rosewood and 2 drops Geranium would make another nice blend. Use this moisturizer daily.
I’d also recommend making the Deluxe Facial Oil and replacing the Jasmine, Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang essential oils with three of the essential oils in your list. Add 8-10 drops in total to the base oil mix. A good combination would be Rose, Neroli and Lavender. For another combination you could try Frankincense, Geranium and Rosewood. Use this facial oil three to four times a week.
You can mix and match the oils in your list, these are just a few of my suggestions. For each of the essential oils in your list, go to the corresponding page on my website and near the bottom are suggestions for blending with other essentials. You will find a list of all the essential oils here.
