While too much exposure to the sun is considered bad for you, a small amount of sun exposure can do you the world of good by providing you with much needed vitamin D.
Chemical sunscreens can do more harm than good however, so it’s best to avoid these and choose natural alternatives.
Limit sunbathing to no more than half an hour a day and avoid the stronger sun in the middle of the day. Always wear a hat and sunglasses to protect the more sensitive areas of your face, eyes, ears and neck.
If you do happen to overdo it in the sun however, here a couple of very easy and natural after sun care treatments to help ease any discomfort you may be suffering from sunburn.
Aloe vera gel
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons Aloe vera gel
- 3 drops Chamomile
- 4 drops Lavender
Method
- Mix the essential oils into the aloe vera gel and gently apply to the affected areas as often as needed.
- Store in the fridge to keep the mixture nice and cool.
Cucumber and Yogurt lotion
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons cucumber juice
- 4 tablespoons natural yogurt
- 4 drops Lavender
Method
- Prepare the cucumber juice using a juice extractor.
- Mix in well with the yogurt then add the essential oil drops, mixing again well.
- Smooth all over the sunburn and leave on for 10-15 minutes.
- Rinse off with warm water and gently pat dry.
